This exciting afternoon ride will take you along the picturesque track up to the Avon Dam and then off-road across the open moor.  The downhill track back to Cross Furzes is tremendous fun.

Explore this network of tracks and lanes at Gatcombe, near Littlehempston.  You’ll ride through quiet lanes and villages to reach the destination on this morning ride, and there may be time for a café stop at Totnes.

The superb track that circles Venford reservoir makes the climb through Holne well worth the effort.  To finish you'll enjoy another track that crosses the open moor and descends steeply into Michelcombe.

 

 

Switzerland Tour 2006

This is Ten Tors South Dartmoor style!  Cycle to ten Dartmoor tours, climb to the top of each, find a Dartmoor letterbox whenever you can and get a certificate to prove you did it all!  The route isn't long, but the moorland air and all that excitement will leave you feeling tired when you get home.

Route takes you through Bickington to Haytor and Bonehill.  There'll be a cafe stop at Widecombe before the last tor near the spectacular Doctor Blackall's drive.  Don't miss this action-packed event!

Golant Youth Hostel 2006

Weekend trips make an ideal short holiday to give you a really good break from your usual routine.  Golant hostel is a large country house overlooking the Fowey estuary around 30 miles from Plymouth.  We’ll be taking train or car to Saltash and then riding along the south coast through the picturesque village of Looe on the Saturday, crossing on at least one ferry.  On Sunday we’ll return via an inland route.

For those who don't know, Spitchwick is a popular grassy area by the banks of the river Dart on Dartmoor.  You will have the option of a frisbee contest on the grass and some good downhill tracks through Hembury Woods.

This moderately easy full day ride will take you via Bickington to Haytor, along the path of the old granite tramway, into the shelter of Haytor quarry for lunch and then offroad on a wild adventure into the valley beyond.  You'll pass the ruins of Graetor village, and if the weather is good we'll return home via Widecombe for refreshments.

Get to know the real Dartmoor on this exciting excursion to the South moor.  You'll ride along quiet back roads to Ivybridge, then take the back lane to Lukesland where you'll enjoy your packed lunch in the shelter of the local church.  You'll then head up onto the open moor for a short climb and exciting descent of the stony track to Owley, returning home via South Brent.

Weekend trips make an ideal short holiday to give you a really good break from your usual routine.  Bellever youth hostel is situated in a remote hamlet on Dartmoor, near Postbridge, and is the closest youth hostel to us.  There's an open fire and a games room, and plenty of fun to be had exploring the nearby river and forest.

If the weather is good we'll ride up from Buckfastleigh, leaving at around 2.15, and ride back via Widecombe on the Sunday, but if it's wet we'll use the car for part or all of the journey and ride on Sunday if it's dryer then.  Be sure to book your place as early as possible, as this is the last weekend trip we will be doing this year.

One of the most exciting downhill tracks on Dartmoor is our destination for today's morning ride.  You'll ride through Hembury Woods to Spitchwick, then after a challenging climb through Leusdon you'll be able to enjoy the breathtaking views of the unspoilt Dart valley as you descend Doctor Blackall's drive, originally built by the owner of the estate to show off his magnificent valley.

Exeter Ship Canal

Don't miss this action-packed ride that will take you along the many miles of flat tracks that run alongside the Exeter Ship Canal.  We'll be taking the cars to Starcross and then riding past the deer of Powderham Castle, across the main railway line, along the coastal path to the canal and then along the canal path into Exeter.  We'll have time to explore the many interesting tracks and shops around the centre of Exeter and call in to a cafe for refreshments before heading back along the canal path to Starcross.  Be sure to book your place in the cars.

For our December afternoon ride, enjoy the quiet lanes through Avonwick and on to North Huish, then drop down a steep hill to the picturesque bridge over the river Avon.  You'll return via Diptford and Rattery.

Badminton is a fun and energetic racquet sport that is the perfect complement to cycling.  Even if you've never played before, come along and see how you get on.  Racquets are available from the leisure centre.  Don't forget to book your place!

 

Dartmeet

Today's ride will involve climbing up through Holne to Venford reservoir, then setting out on a lengthy track adventure from Combestone Tor, down over the moor, across a stream, along an open path and then, if the weather hasn't been too wet recently, down across open fields to the stepping stones across the river Dart.  There's an excellent cafe at Badger's Holt that will prepare you for the big climb of Dartmeet Hill and the descent of the exciting Doctor Blackall's drive for the return journey.

This is our annual excursion to the luxurious Ilsington Country Hotel, a huge country house set in its own magnificent grounds.  We plan to ride up to the hotel via Bickington, but if the weather is bad we will be using car assistance.  You'll have opportunity to use the hotel's private indoor swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room before the meal.  We'll be giving out certificates and prizes after the meal, and when you've enjooyed coffee by the log fire we'll be heading homewards, a journey that is mainly downhill.  It's important to book your place early for this event, so please contact Michael as soon as you can.

Menu is soup or melon for starters, roast turkey or nut roast for main course and christmas pudding or fresh fruit salad for dessert.

For our first ride of 2007 enjoy a gentle ride through the lanes to Staverton and Broadhampston.  There'll be time for a short frisbee contest in the play park as well as some bumpy rides on the famous Broadhempston Rocket!

Stover Park is packed full of interesting paths and tracks that together make it a fun place to explore.  The ride will probably include a visit to Fermoy's cafe, so be sure to bring some money for refreshments.
