Socials take place every Friday evening from October to March, starting at Crofters (Michael’s bungalow) in Wallaford Road, usually at 7pm.

For those activities that are not based at Crofters you can either book a car place by ringing Michael in advance and then meet at Crofters at the time specified in the newsletter, or ring Michael and arrange a time to meet directly at the venue.

Indoor Games evenings.  Held at Crofters every other week, these evenings are free format offering a range of computer and board games, and occasionally Table Tennis on our full-size table.  Members are invited to bring their own games or computers to help make the evenings even more fun.  The admission price (around 50p, see newsletter) includes a free drink and two biscuits.  A large range of drinks and snacks are available from the club shop.

Ten-pin bowling.  Usually twice per season, at LA Bowl, Newton Abbot.   Some members elect to take part in Lasercraze instead of having a second round of bowling.  Full supervision of all junior members at all times.

bullet

Badminton.  Usually at Ashmoor Leisure Centre, Ashburton, once or twice per season.  Details of costs and equipment hire charges if you don’t have your own racquet are given in the newsletter.  Usually about two hours of badminton on specially-reserved courts.

Snooker.  Usually once per season, at Galaxy Snooker Centre, Torquay.  Pool is also available.

bullet

Swimming.  Usually at ERiC, Torquay, maximum once per season.

bullet

Cinema trip.  Usually once or twice per season, to a popular U or PG certificate film at a local cinema.  Ask Michael near the published date to find out which film we’ll actually be seeing.

bullet

Music Quiz.  Michael uses his computer equipment to play some instrument tracks from a well-known pop song, tv or film theme, and marks are given to the first team to correctly identify the piece.  There are variations on the theme each year.

bullet

Give us a Clue.  Team members take it in turns to mime the name of a film, tv programme, pop song or book to the rest of their team-mates.  Points are awarded to each team, and there is a prize for the winners at the end of the evening.  Suitable for all ages – great fun!

Video evening.   Popular U or PG certificate video shown at Crofters.  Ring Michael near the date to find out which video will be featured.

bullet

Tour preview. Don’t miss this slide or video presentation giving you an idea of what the forthcoming summer tour will be like.

bullet

Christmas special.  This is a special, extra-long, festive version of our indoor games evenings, with extra competitions, prizes, and a free hot mince pie and ice cream for everyone who comes along.

bullet

Annual General Meeting. The AGM, held on the first Friday in October, is our most important official meeting of the year.  It gives you, the members, a chance to say what you like - and what you don't like - about the club, to elect the people who will run the club during the coming year, to offer yourself for one of the Section's many jobs, and to meet many other club members.  You'll also get a first look at the attendance lists for the year ended 30 September, showing who has won attendance prizes for overall, Sundays and Fridays.  If you aren't there to say what you think, changes may be made with which you don't agree. If you have any new ideas which you think should be discussed at the meeting, please tell the Secretary by mid-September.

bullet

Map-reading quiz.  Learn to read maps the fun way.  You work in small teams to follow the trail across a local OS map by answering the questions on the clue sheet.  There is a prize for the first team to complete the trail.

bullet

Star Trek Extravaganza.  An evening not to be missed even if you’ve never seen much Star Trek before.  In case you don’t know, there were 79 episodes of original Star Trek, 21 episodes of Animated stories, 178 episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation, more than 100 episodes of Star Trek Deep Space Nine and a similar number of Star Trek: Voyager.  We’ll be selecting the very best stories from each of these five series, so you’re assured of an exciting evening.
